Everyone would most likely agree that the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a wedding is a beautiful white dress. However, everyone would also agree that it takes a lot more to have a wedding. As a photographer, it is my job to capture moments from your wedding day that will not only hang above your fireplace, but are able to help you retell the entire day. This is why we spend time capturing all of the little details.
Now, are you going to put a detailed shot of your wedding ring above your kitchen table or hang a picture of the groom’s whisky bottle in the dining room? Probably not. But these images will make up spreads in your wedding album and help tell the entire story of your big day. These are the images that will take you right back to that time and place. These are the memory pieces. Not only is it important to capture the bridal details, but we don’t want to forget about the men too. Groom’s details help tell the story just as well. Here are 5 tips for gathering your groom’s details.
The Essentials
These are the 6 simple things that can create a groom’s detail spread.
Shoes
Tie/Bow Tie
Watch
Boutonniere
Cologne
Oh and the simplest of all...your wedding band!
Treasured Items:
These are the things that will really be the icing on the top. These will capture memories and family traditions. Do you have a handkerchief that someone gave you? Family heirloom cufflinks? A pocket watch that is special? These don’t even have to be things that you are wearing during your big day, but they tell a story. These will help bring personalization to your details.
Groom’s Suit:
Though I don’t think we need to take a picture of your suit on a hanger (like we normally do for the bride’s gown), we do need a detailed shot of all the thought put into your colors, jacket, vest, tie, etc.
Groomsmen Gifts:
The “bros” are just as special as the bride’s gals. Did you give your groomsmen something special as a “Thank You” for standing by your side? Flasks? Special Socks? Whisky? Watches? Cigars? This is a big part of your wedding story that needs to be remembered and told. Bring them with you!
Put it all in a box
Put everything in a shoe box the week before the wedding so that 1. You know you have it all. 2. It’s easy for the photographer to grab quickly to create your shots.
*The photographer will grab the fresh flowers on the big day, don’t worry about adding those to the box. ;)
Groom’s details are just as important as bridal details and even simpler to put together. Take a few minutes the week before the wedding to gather these special items so that your blog and gallery can tell every detail of your story.
