As many of you know, I am a full time teacher. With that comes a very nice schedule, which includes a spring break vacation! Nathan’s previous job never allowed for him to take off during this time of year. This was actually the first time since we’ve been married that we had a full week off together in the spring. We had tossed around ideas of things to do and then finally decided to stay home and take it day-by-day with the kiddos.
Nathan wanted to go to the beach, but we decided to put it off. Then, a friend graciously let me know that her family’s Outer Banks beach house would be available. We’ve always vacationed in Myrtle Beach, so this was an exciting (and not so far away) change for us. We jumped on the opportunity to go to the beach for a couple nights. I instantly fell in love with the Outer Banks. Our entire trip, I was looking for houses for sale, you know, because we can totally afford to buy a house down there…Ok (SUPER) wishful thinking…but maybe one day.
The weather was gorgeous and just right for relaxing on the beach. **notice Nash’s purple flowered beach hat that he borrowed from his sister since we left his at home #momfail** Thankfully Nash loved playing in the sand, because the water was far too cold to swim. Nash was building epic sandcastles and LeeAnn was a little unhappy that we kept her in a play pen because she so desperately wanted to join her brother in the fun. She is currently in the “put-everything-in-her-mouth” phase so we knew that her and sand would not mix very well right now.
We never travel out of town without trying yummy food. After all, what is a trip to the beach without crab legs? Yep! Got those. We went to Captain Georges (a bit of a splurge), but it was SO WORTH IT. LeeAnn ate as if she would never see food again, while Nash ate 2 dinner rolls. (Thankfully he was FREE). We visited Duck donuts for the first time. YUM! Nathan and I love BBQ so we knew we had to try out a local North Carolina BBQ place. Seeing as how I think vinegar should be its own food group, I absolutely loved it.
On our last day, we decided to visit the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. It was amazing. LeeAnn was her typical content self just taking in all the views. Nash was mesmerized by the sharks. It is such a treat to see things through the eyes of your children. They are filled with pure joy and excitement as they experience new things.
We are so thankful for this quick, spur of the moment trip. OBX, we will definitely be back soon and we can’t wait!
