Sometimes the best things are the spur of the moment things. I received an email last week from Megan inquiring about photographing her sister’s surprise proposal. I didn’t have much back story, but I knew I wanted to be a part of this milestone.
Jamal is a United States Marine who was sent to training in Virginia months ago (pre Covid). Well just like everyone else's plans, Jamal was basically put on freeze while here and has been in Virginia for military training for MUCH longer than anticipated. Regardless of where he was he knew he wanted to marry his girlfriend, Alyssa. Alyssa had a trip planned to visit him before he finished training. He knew it was the perfect time. Alyssa drove all the way from their home in south florida. Yes. SOUTH FLORIDA!
Well...little did she know, her entire family was coming up from South Florida also. Jamal didn’t know much about the Richmond area but saw that Maymont would be beautiful (Yes! He was correct). After all of the plans were made, both of their entire families flew up to Richmond. Jamal told Alyssa that they had a tour planned at Maymont. Little did she know, their entire families were hiding out to watch the entire proposal.
Everything was PERFECT and could not have gone better. A few little white lies from Jamal and family to coordinate everything, but it went off without a hitch.
After the proposal, both families popped out to congratulate the couple, give hugs, look at that stunning diamond and spend time together.
Alyssa and Jamal are the sweetest. I KNEW from the moment I met them how excited and meant to be they were!
Best wishes to them as they plan their wedding and begin their new military life.
