This was probably my most unique senior session to date. The forecast for the day did not look promising. Ellie and I had been watching the weather for a few hours and decided we would go ahead and try to make it work a little earlier than our original scheduled time.
Ellie chose to have her pictures taken at Belle Isle. Any Richmonder knows that it’s quite a walk from treadger, across the pedestrian bridge, and down the path to get to the rocks on the shore. As the sky started to look more and more gloomy, both of us started to panic (a little). But we were not going to give up just yet. We walked as fast as we could to the rocks. I was able to snap about 20 shots and then told Ellie to go change into her second outfit quickly. As I was waiting, I could see the rain coming down the river. We jumped back out on the rocks and took maybe a total of 2 pictures and the sky literally OPENED UP! It was pouring like never before. We both started thinking of a back up plan...indoors somewhere? Reschedule? What should we do? I knew we would figure it out, but in the moment, we just needed to get back to our cars. And remember that long walk I was talking about?? Yeah… When I say pouring - I mean it was POURING. down. rain! I don’t think I have ever been so soaked in my entire life. We looked like we had gone swimming in the river.
At the time, I can’t say I wasn’t a little disappointed and maybe a tad frustrated about the weather, but we decided to reschedule for a sunrise session on Sunday morning. Ellie and I ended up riding together so we got to chat more than I normally do with my seniors.
Ellie is a first generation American! Her parents are from Ireland...meaning she had triple citizenship. How neat is that?! We talked about her plans for next year (I am still trying to convince her Longwood is where it’s at!) When we pulled up to the Richmond Capitol, all the bitterness about Thursday’s session disappeared. The weather was 68 degrees and absolutely gorgeous! If everyday was like this...I would never leave the outdoors. Ellie used the senior style guide and did a great job putting her outfits together. She had such a cute mix of dressy and casual and looked effortlessly stunning. I (and probably her or her mom) will NEVER forget this session, ever.
